About Genetix

Genetix is a South African precision genetic testing company. We offer pharmacogenomics, cancer genetics,
microbiome, nutrigenomics and whole genome sequencing, with expert genetic counselling included where required. Every sample is processed in a South African laboratory.

Most genetic testing platforms are built on European or North American data. Ours is not. Our PGx testing uses an array, designed for diverse population coverage, including South African and broader African ancestry groups. Every test comes with direct access to our genetics team for follow up questions. Our PGx Live test goes further than a single report: it gives your clinician an interactive clinical portal that can be updated for life, not just on the day you’re tested.

Yes. Every Genetix test includes access to our genetics team, so you and your clinician are supported well beyond the report itself.

No. However, the PGx Live and PGx Standard reports go directly to your treating clinician. That’s by design, since any decision to change medication needs to happen under medical supervision. Microbiome and nutrigenomics tests are different, the results will be sent to you directly.

Choosing the right test

It depends on what you want to know. If you’re concerned about how your body handles medication, start with PGx. If you want insight into gut health, the microbiome test is the right fit. For general health, diet and lifestyle, nutrigenomics is the better choice. We do also offer Bundled testing at discounted rates.

If there’s a known cancer mutation in your family, Familial Mutation testing gives you a direct answer. Our tests page breaks down every option side by side, and our team is happy to advise you if needed.

It’s a test that looks at how your genes affect the way your body processes medication. Some people break down certain drugs too quickly, some too slowly, and some have a higher chance of side effects from specific medications. PGx testing identifies these patterns ahead of time, so your clinician can choose the right drug and the right dose for you, rather than relying on trial and error. Thereby avoiding Adverse Drug Reactions and achieving optimal treatments sooner.

Both analyse the same 80+ clinically relevant genes and give you the same full clinical report. The difference is what happens afterwards. PGx Standard gives you a single report that captures your profile at the time of testing. PGx Live includes lifelong access to a clinical portal, so your treating clinician can add new medications, recalculate your risk, and check new prescriptions against your genetics at any point in the future, without retesting.

It examines the populations of bacteria, fungi, and viruses living your gut to map their diversity, identify imbalances, and provide insight for personalised diet or supplement plans. These tests are typically used to explore gut health, guide nutrition and symptom tracking. You’ll get a breakdown of your gut bacteria, a dysbiosis score, and personalised diet, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations based on what’s actually happening in your microbiome, not a generic guess.

Our premier nutrigenomics test covers twelve areas, from diet and metabolism to sleep, cognition, fitness and longevity, in a detailed report. Our standard nutrigenomics test is more focused, covering four pillars: nutrition, fertility, mood and inflammation. If you want a deep, wide ranging report, choose the premier option. If you want a tighter, more targeted starting point, the standard test is a good fit.

Familial Mutation testing tests for one specific mutation already identified in your family. It requires a copy of the
relevant family member’s genetic report and gives a direct yes or no answer. Our cancer screening panels, such as the Breast-Colon (BrCo) Panel, look more broadly for cancer related variants when there isn’t already a known family mutation to test against. Your clinician or genetic counsellor can help you choose the right one.

Sample collection

It depends on the test. PGx, Familial Mutation and most cancer tests use a blood sample, collected in an EDTA tube by one of our registered phlebotomists. Microbiome and nutrigenomics tests use a home collection kit, either a stool swab or a saliva sample, that we deliver to you.

Yes. Our registered phlebotomists can collect your sample at a time and location that suits you.

Once you’ve completed your collection, simply let us know you’re ready. We’ll arrange a courier to collect the kit directly from you, so there’s no need to find a drop off point yourself.

No. The cost of sample collection is included in the test price.

We’ll keep you updated at the moments that matter, when your sample reaches the lab, and when your results are ready, so you’re never left wondering.

Results and turnaround times

We are constantly striving to shorten our turn-around time, however most of our tests, including PGx Live, PGx Standard and nutrigenomics, are typically ready within 2 to 3 weeks of your sample reaching the lab. Microbiome results take a little longer, usually 3 to 4 weeks.

It depends on the test. For PGx Live and PGx Standard, your report goes directly to your treating clinician, and our genetics team will liaise directly with your doctor if clarity is needed. Your doctor will review the findings with you in the context of your current medications and health history. For microbiome and nutrigenomics tests, your results are sent to you directly as a personalised digital report. In all cases, our genetics team is available for follow up questions from you or your clinician.

If your PGx results flag a concern about a medication you’re taking, don’t make any changes on your own. Your clinician will have received the report and can use it to adjust your treatment safely, with full knowledge of your genetics and medical history. If you haven’t yet shared your results with a doctor, that’s the right first step. Please notify your doctor that they are free to contact us directly for any queries.

Yes. That’s the entire point of PGx Live. Your clinician can log into your portal, add the new medication, and instantly check it against your existing genetic profile. This facility is available for life.

Pricing and payment

Pricing is listed on our tests page for each test. If you’re a clinician, we can also send you a downloadable rate sheet for your practice.

We’re currently finalising our online payment portal. In the meantime, get in touch with our team directly and we’ll guide you through it.

This depends on your test, your provider and your specific plan. Speak to our team or your medical aid directly to confirm your cover.

For healthcare providers

Get in touch with our team directly, by phone, email or our contact page, and we’ll take care of everything with you, from choosing the right test through to booking and payment. This applies to all our tests. For PGx Live specifically, once the test is complete you’ll also receive access to that patient’s clinical portal, so you can manage their results and update their medication profile over time.

Yes. Contact us and we’ll send you a downloadable PDF rate sheet for your practice.

Yes. You get lifelong access tied to your patient’s test, so you can add or remove medications, recalculate risk, and check new prescriptions against their genetic and drug-drug interaction risks whenever you need to.

It depends on the test. A patient can request any test, however, the PGx Live and PGx Standard reports are issued to you as the treating clinician, not directly to your patient, so that any medication changes stay under your supervision. Microbiome and nutrigenomics tests can be ordered by your patients directly, without your involvement, though we’re always glad to have you in the loop.

Executive wellness

Executive wellness testing is a corporate health benefit that gives your employees access to precision genetic testing as part of a structured wellness programme. Rather than generic health screening, each employee receives personalised insights based on their own DNA, covering how their body processes medication, responds to nutrition, and functions day to day. Companies purchase tests in bulk and we handle everything directly, from kit delivery through to results.

We recommend a combination of tests depending on your programme goals and budget. The most popular choices for corporate wellness are PGx Live (medication safety and optimisation), nutrigenomics (diet, energy, cognition and sleep), and the gut microbiome test (digestive health and metabolic function). Whole genome sequencing is also available for organisations offering a deeper level of executive health benefit. Our team can help you choose the right combination for your workforce.

Genetic testing gives each employee something no standard wellness programme can: a personalised health picture based on their own biology, not population averages. Depending on which tests are included, employees can expect:

  • A clear picture of how their body processes medication, so they and their doctor can make better treatment decisions and avoid unnecessary side effects.
  • Personalised nutrition and lifestyle guidance, including how their genes influence energy, sleep quality, cognitive performance, body weight, and stress response.
  • Insight into gut health and how their microbiome may be affecting their digestion, immunity and overall wellbeing.
  • A genetic profile they keep for life, not just a one-off snapshot. PGx Live in particular remains useful every time a new prescription is considered, years into the future.

The business case for genetic testing at work is straightforward. Employees who understand their health make better decisions about it, and that has measurable downstream effects. Companies offering precision wellness testing typically see:

  • Fewer avoidable sick days, when employees are on the right medication and eating in a way that suits their biology, they function better and recover faster.
  • Improved productivity and focus, particularly from nutrigenomics insights around sleep, cognition and energy, which directly affect performance.
  • Stronger talent attraction and retention, particularly at senior level, where personalised health benefits signal that an organisation takes long-term employee wellbeing seriously.
  • Reduced long-term healthcare costs by helping employees and their doctors make proactive, evidence-based health decisions rather than reactive ones.

Yes. You don’t need to offer the same test to everyone. Some organisations offer a tiered benefit, where all employees receive one test and senior executives receive a more comprehensive panel. Our team can help you structure this in a way that works for your budget and your people.

Get in touch with our team directly and we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll discuss your programme goals, recommend the right tests, confirm pricing, and coordinate kit delivery and sample logistics for your whole team.

Yes, corporate orders are priced differently to individual tests. Contact us to discuss your team size and we’ll provide a tailored quote.

No, never. Your genetic results are yours alone. They are sent directly to you, and your employer has no access to them at any point. Genetix complies fully with POPIA, and your genetic data is treated as private health information.

It depends on the test. Nutrigenomics and microbiome results are delivered directly to each employee as a personalised digital report. PGx results go to the employee’s treating clinician, who reviews the findings with them directly.
